Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently, people are unsure of what Holistic Medicine actually is. They have questions about how to find a trained and licensed physician and if there is insurance coverage for "alternative medicine" through their insurance plan. Here are some of the answers to some of those questions.

What is holistic medicine?

Wellness can be achieved only by treating you as the whole person you are, not as a collection of unrelated body parts. Holistic medicine incorporates the body mind and spirit.

Resources to find a Holistic Physician in your area:
Visit the American Holistic Medical Association at
www.holisticmedicine.org or www.acam.org for a listing of board certified practitioners in your area.

Does WELLNESS WORKS accept Medicare?

Yes. WELLNESS WORKS is a Medicare provider. WELLNESS WORKS does not participate with Medicare HMOs.

Do I require a referral to see a WELLNESS WORKS physician?

If you have a PPO plan, you probably do not require a referral. Regardless of what type of plan you have, if you are under the care of a PCP you should discuss your situation with him/her because the PCP will understand the requirements of your Health Plan and the PCP is often the one required to make the referral. If you do not have a PCP, or you still have questions, please call the member services number on your insurance I.D. card.

Will I need any type of approval from my Health Plan to see a WELLNESS WORKS physician?
Generally if you do not require a referral, then no prior authorization is necessary. If you do require a referral, it is the responsibility of the physician giving you the referral to obtain the referral properly authorized. However, you as the patient must ensure that you do have a properly authorized referral (if one is required by your plan) before visiting WELLNESS WORKS.

What if Dr. Roberts or Dr. Bradshaw refers me to a specialist?
Some health plans that require a referral from your Primary Care Physician to see a specialist apply this same rule for specialist to specialist referrals. This means that only your Primary Care Physician can make a referral to another specialist.

Will WELLNESS WORKS file my insurance claims with my insurance company?
Yes, for Medicare only.
